Rewards Program of South West Airlines Revamped

In order to attract more business travelers, Southwest Airlines has rolled out a revamped frequent-flyer program.

The Texas-based airline, identified for its inexpensive domestic flights, unveiled a new Rapid Rewards program. The program, set to be launched on March 1, will replace the ancient system, whereby frequent-flyer credits were based on the number of trips taken with a new one, in which points accrue based on fares.

The new plan also consists of perks for elite rewards program members, including free on board Wi-Fi.

Distinct from the old program, points will not end and they will be utilizable for any seat, with no blackout dates. Clients will also have the new alternative to use their Southwest points toward global flights.

Airline industry experts stated that the changes in the reward structure were most probably to profit business travelers, who tend to pay higher fares as they often book at the last minute.
