With the start on of programmed flights to the northern city of Erbil, Qatar Airways extended its Middle East footprint to Iraq on Wednesday.
The Doha-based airline is functioning four non-stop flights a week on the route - the first of two new Iraqi services being commenced within two weeks. Effective 7 June, Qatar Airways will set up flights to the capital Baghdad, also in use four times a week.
Both the Erbil and Baghdad services are being functioned with an Airbus A320 in a two-class arrangement of 12 seats in Business Class and 132 in Economy.
Erbil takes Qatar Airways' global network to 115 destinations universal.
Situated 350km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, Erbil is the country’s third major city and best ever on the rise with a population of over one million people.
Sitting on productive agricultural land, Erbil and its nearby area are rich in natural resources. The region is known for its considerable gas reserves, including oil, gold and other deposits. There are multi-billion dollar infrastructure projects well underway covering healthcare, housing, energy, agriculture and technology to help with restructuring efforts to pre-war levels.

Friday, October 28, 2011Qatar Airways announced lately that it will commence regular flight operations to the Libyan port city of Benghazi from November 1. Qatar Airways serves the capital city of Tripoli in Libya but the airline was forced to suspend flights after different nations imposed a 'no-fly zone' over the African country during the political turbulence earlier this year. Qatar's flag carrier hopes to resume flights to Tripoli soon.  Airline's latest route to Benghazi, Libya's second largest city will be operational from Tuesday next week. Thursday, August 11, 2011Qatar Airways has announced that it will introduce flights to a fifth gateway to China through the western city of Chongqing from November 28.  Operating thrice a week, the non-stop service from the airline’s hub in Doha, will take the carrier’s capacity to China up to 28 flights a week. The new Chongqing service will be operated with an Airbus A330 in a two-class that includes business and economy configuration. An airline spokesman stated that with a population of just over 30 million people,Chongqing has a fat industrial catchment area and is a major example of Qatar Airways placing strategic importance into rising cities around the world. Monday, June 6, 2011Qatar Airways has introduced scheduled flights to the southern Iranian city of Shiraz which marks the first of three route start-ups this month. The airline commenced twice-weekly services lately from its Doha hub to Shahid Dastghaib International Airport in Shiraz.  The carrier previously serves Iran's capital Tehran twice daily, with an added five-flights-a-week to the northern city of Mashad. The newest route additionally enhances Qatar Airways' commitment to Iran, where it first commenced operating services to the country in 2004 with the launch of the Tehran route, followed by flights to Mashad a year later. Qatar Airways announced today their plans to commence flights to the southern Iranian city of Shiraz.The airline will begin twice-weekly flights from its Doha hub to Shiraz International Airport on June 5. Shiraz will turn out to be the airline’s 101st worldwide destination and third route to Iran. The carrier by now operates double daily services to the capital city of Tehran and five-flights-a-week to Mashad in northern Iran.

Qatar Airways recently announced an expansion of its East African network with 12 supplementary flights across 2 capital cities-Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.
The daily Nairobi - Doha flights has been increased to 12 flights a week and from January 3, an extra two flights will take capacity up to double daily. This expansion comes after five triumphant years of operations to Kenya's capital city.  The Tanzanian capital, Dar Es Salaam, at present served daily, will obtain an added four flights a week from January 2. An additional flight from February 14 will take occurrence up to 12 weekly services. Monday, October 11, 2010Qatar Airways has announced strategies to expand flights to Germany with the launching of scheduled services to Stuttgart and greater capacity to Munich next year. Stuttgart, to be served 3 times a week, will be the Doha-based carrier’s fourth destination in Germany. Known as the “cradle of the automobile industry”, flights to Germany’s sixth largest city will commence on 9 March 2011. At the same time, Qatar Airways will raise frequency on the Doha – Munich route from daily flights to 11 services a week using Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft.The news comes as Qatar Airways prepares to get on on a enormous European expansion drive with the launch of flights to Nice, Budapest, Bucharest and Brussels over a 10 week-period from November 2010 to January 2011. Wednesday, July 28, 2010Qatar Airways' chief executive Akbar Al Baker has confirmed that the carrier will divulge a fresh business class next year, regardless of its present fully flat bed in business class being less than 2 years old. The shift will come right away after the carrier's move from T3 to T4 at London Heathrow and the opening of its own lounge at London Heathrow in the first quarter of 2011.
