Air India also hopes to reorganize timing of some of its US flights, such as those to New York, to enhance aircraft utilization and to slash idle time for the wide-body aircraft from the end of this month when the winter season kicks in. Demand for first-class seats, which can cost six times as much as an economy-class seat, has dropped as companies cut travel entitlements for top executives to save costs as the prospect of a second recession in the US in less than four years looms, European nations face a debt crisis as well as and rising interest rates in India crimp economic growth. The Air India flight in this route does'nt stop at Frankfurt, Germany, and the travel time has been reduced to 15 hours and 10 minutes. Crasto stated that for the New Delhi to Chicago flight, the European hub has been cancelled in order to give faster flying times and ongoing service is unparalleled. Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has introduced flights to its eighth destination in Bangalore,India.Currently Etihad operates 4 return flights a week to Bangalore.
The airline would augment to a daily service on the route from March 25, 2011 at the beginning of its summer scheduling season. ![]() Neerja Bhatia, Etihad Airways Country Manager in India stated that India is an immensely significant market for Etihad and that they also operate to more destinations in India than any other country. Etihad operates a two class Airbus A320 on the novel Bangalore route configured to accommodate 140 passengers with 20 in Business class and 120 in Economy class. With the inclusion of Bangalore, Etihad flies to 8 Indian destinations, counting the cities of New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kozhikode, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad and Kochi with a totality of 49 flights to India per week. This frequency has been increased to daily flights, the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) said.The decision is to meet the increasing demand in flight services in the sector. ![]() The Mumbai-Abu Dhabi route recorded a 17 percent increase in customer traffic in the first half of 2010, compared with the related period last year. The added services will raise Air India's total number of flights to Abu Dhabi to 14, linking the UAE capital with both Mumbai and Delhi. Air India will operate the high-tech A321 aircraft which will leave from Abu Dhabi at 2.40 a.m., and will land in Mumbai at 6.55 a.m. It will proffer both business and economy class services, ADAC said. Ahmed Al Haddabi, senior vice president of airports' operations at ADAC said stated that they were delighted to see that the airline partners are keen to expand their services to meet their passengers increasing demand. Additionally, the discount will be valid on tickets purchased under all fare categories of economy class. Outbound travel will have to board their flights on or earlier than 30 April. However the discount is not valid for travel on Air India's code share flights. Labels: Air India, cheap tickets, discounts, economy class Monday, July 6, 2009 Civil aviation minister Praful Patel has again ruled out any job cuts in Air India, the state-run airline which needs a cash infusion to continue.Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a Rs 50-crore aviation turbine fuel pipeline of Indian Oil Corporation from Manali to Chennai, the minister said:"Air India will not sack employees but financial and organisational restructuring is on the cards."
The plan, he said, will commence in the next 30 days. Terming the current period as a tough one, the minister said, "It is time to cooperate with each other to build a strong national carrier."
The borrowings of Air India rose to Rs 15,241 crore in June this year from Rs 6,550 crore in November 2007. They have gone up due to servicing of debt due to purchase of new aircraft and operating losses, which have compounded due to the present economic recession and the high oil prices last year. (business-standard) Labels: Air India Thursday, June 4, 2009 In a move that will reduce travel time from Ahmedabad to West-bound destinations, Air India will introduce a daily direct flight between Ahmedabad and Frankfurt with effect from June 1, 2009.With the introduction of the direct flight, passengers travelling from Ahmedabad and neighbouring places like Anand, Nadiad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhuj and Bhavnagar will be able to reach Frankfurt in 9 hours 15 minutes instead of the earlier 12 hours 50 minutes, thereby saving about three and half hours travel time taken while travelling via Mumbai till now. The reduction in travel time will also be experienced for West-bound flights from Frankfurt as passengers will be able to reach their destinations faster. This new flight, operated with Boeing 747-400 aircraft will provide convenient connections to Newark and Chicago at Frankfurt, the new hub of Air India. Passengers coming in from Newark and Chicago will also connect to Ahmedabad at Frankfurt. The flight AI-121 will depart Ahmedabad at 0205 hrs. and arrive Frankfurt at 0650 hrs. The flight AI-120 will depart Frankfurt at 1110 hrs. and arrive Ahmedabad at 2225 hrs. Ahmedabad will also have a daily flight to London via Mumbai with effect from June 1, 2009. The flight AI-131 will depart Ahmedabad at 2145 hrs., arrive Mumbai at 2245 hrs. leave Mumbai at 0220 hrs. and arrive London at 0730 hrs. On the return direction, flight AI-130 will depart London at 0945 hrs. arrive Mumbai at 2335 hrs. leave Mumbai at 0105 hrs. and arrive Ahmedabad at 0205 hrs.
