More and more passengers are taking advantage of this fast, flexible and convenient check-in service and having their boarding pass sent to an Internet-enabled cell phone in the form of a 2D barcode. About 85,000 passengers a month are now using this innovative service, which does away with the need for paper documents. With the exception of flights departing from Germany, the mobile boarding pass can now be used on flights from more than 30 airports in Europe and from all Lufthansa destinations in Canada. In addition to the relevant flight data, such as the passenger's name, flight number and departure time, the boarding pass contains a 2D barcode, which permits passengers to pass through the security checkpoints and then proceed straight to their departure gate. There, the barcode is read by a scanner, enabling passengers to board the aircraft directly. Lufthansa passengers with an Internet-enabled mobile device can request an electronic boarding pass via the mobile portal lufthansa or they can check in online via the Internet. The only identification they need at check-in is their booking code combined with their name. Since the end of April, Lufthansa's Online Check-in service has also offered a range of new options. In future, passengers who are travelling together will be able to check in independently and select seats next to one another even if they have not made a joint booking. All they have to do is click on "Add passenger" when checking in online. Passengers who have already checked in via the Online or Mobile Check-in service can now also change an existing seat assignment on the Internet. (Aeroflot) Labels: Aeroflot, Business class Tuesday, May 19, 2009Ethiopian Airlines has announced a promotional drive to make travel cheaper in the current global economic distress. Ermajechew Regassa, the Airline's Uganda manager, announced recently that the promotional drive that started on April 4 would last up to May 31 and would have major international routes on special discount rates. One of the cheapest routes will be a return trip from Entebbe to New Delhi which has a current market rate of $850 but will now go for $500 in economy class. The other routes on promotion are Entebbe-Addis Ababa, going from $480 to $400. The journey to two of China's key trade cities (Guangzhou and Beijing) has also been made cheaper from $870 and $1000 to $700 and $800 respectively. The other destinations with discounts are Entebbe to Dubai, Hong Kong and Mumbai. "The current season is a low season. We feel there is need to offer promotional fares and due to the current economic crunch, we want to make travel less expensive," said Regassa. One of the biggest casualties of the current economic meltdown is the aviation industry. It has not only seen profits nosedive but also the drop in the number of passenger. The situation in Uganda has been aggravated by the falling Uganda shilling, which has affected imports. In recent weeks, the dollar traded as high as sh2,200. "The Ethiopian market segment is importing traders. Once importers are threatened because of the Uganda shilling versus the dollar exchange regime, things get worse," said Regassa. Regassa says despite tough economic times, Ethiopian Airlines is encouraging people to travel. (ethiopianreview) Labels: Ethiopian Airlines |
