| Business Class A330-200 Launches in Hong Kong Airlines |
Air Travel NewsThursday, February 16, 2012Hong Kong Airlines is showcasing the world's first all-business class A330-200 aircraft at an exclusive media tour hosted concomitantly in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing to announce Hong Kong Airlines' new routes and in-flight services. The latter features as culinary consultants, famous Hong Kong chef chow chunk and Michelin-starred British chef Jason Atherton. The aircraft included the airlines' exclusive Club Premier and Club Classic seating. The Club Premier section offers only 34 seats in a 1-2-1 configuration with flat-bed seats that are totally horizontal when fully reclined and gauge an overall length of 6 feet one inch. The guild Classic section offers 82 seats in a 2-2-2 design, where the seat pitch (seat-to-seat distance) measures a generous 51" while the seat cushion width is a comfortable 22". Mr. Stanley Kan, Director of Hong Kong Airlines' Service Delivery Department, said, "Both of the 2 cabin sections have been engineered with the newest concepts for most favorable in-flight comfort. The seats are so ergonomically-designed and the configuration so considerately devised that each and every passenger will be able to enjoy maximum privacy - be it for WIFI connectivity, in-flight Sky bar pick-me-up or individual in-flight entertainment, making long-haul flight tedium a thing of the past." Business travellers are particularly worried about connectivity during long flights. Hong Kong Airlines offers passengers the On-air in-flight connectivity services for prompt and fast Smartphone, tablet and notebook computer and internet accessibility through WIFI. Passengers can also buy, at any time on the internet, value-added in-flight WIFI services. On-air Chief administrative Officer, Mr. Ian Dawkins, said, "On-air is the first provider to be able to offer in-flight internet access over China, meaning passengers can now stay online in Chinese airspace. It also means we now provide 95% service availability on the routes our customer airlines fly, cementing On Air's position as the global in-flight connectivity service provider." A VIP air travel experience isn't complete without outstanding in-flight dining. Hong Kong Airlines has selected local celebrity Chinese chef Chow Chung and Michelin-starred British chef Jason Atherton as consultants. They will be helping Hong Kong Airlines to design special menus for discriminating travellers. Labels: Australian Business Traveller, Business class, Hong Kong Airlines Monday, January 30, 2012
Hong Kong Airlines will start on daily all business class flights between Hong Kong and London from March 7, with linking flights out of Australia via Qantas starting at $3,520 return.
It is a split class ticket travelling Qantas economy from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, before transferring to Hong Kong Airlines' Club Classic business class from Hong Kong to London.
For $8860 revisit you get Qantas business class to Hong Kong and the snazzier Club Premier from Hong Kong to London.
The Hong Kong Airlines flights use three new Airbus A330-200s with just 116 seats (by way of comparison, Qantas' worldwide versions of the same aircraft pack some 253 seats across both business and economy class).
Flight from Hong Kong (HX875) will leave at 11.50pm, arriving at London's Gatwick Airport the following day at 5.55am. The revisit service, HX876, will be wheels up from Gatwick at 9.30pm and reach Hong Kong at 6.05pm the next day.
Aussie business travellers will be extra familiar with London's Heathrow airport but in many ways Gatwick is more expedient than the mega-hub of Heathrow. It's a lesser and extra manageable airport with a direct rail link on London's Thames link line to several stops convenient for the City of London financial district.
