Passengers traveling in British Airways to Pay Extra for Seat Selection

British AirwaysBritish Airways passengers, wishing to choose their seats much before they travel need to pay extra from October, the airline had announced . The fresh charges will affect people who wish to sit together on a flight as well as anyone with a preference for window, aisle or emergency exit seats.

Presently, British Airways allows passengers to reserve seats in the 24 hours before departure, but from this month onwards, those willing to pay extra will be able to obtain their preferred spot in the cabin when they make a booking.British Airways stated the move would provide customers additional control over their seating options.

For a standard class trip within Europe, travelers will pay an extra 10 pounds per person to opt for a seat.On long-haul standard or short flights in business class the charge will be 20 pounds, and 60 pounds in business class on long distance flights.Seats in an emergency exit row will cost 50 pounds and passengers can book within 10 and 4 days before take-off.

This present introduction of the levy comes as BA attempts to boost its balance sheet after an immense loss in the last financial year; the worst result since privatisation in 1987.
