Virgin's Boeing 737s Business Class Seat Launched In Embraer E-190 Jets

The Virgin Australia will install six full business class seats at the front of its Embraer E-190 aircraft, with two wider seats to the right of the cabin and one on the left. That's an upgrade to the current business class situation, which is more akin to the airline's old Premium Economy seating: a regular seat with a bit of extra legroom and an empty seat next to you in the aircraft's 2-2 cabin.

They are not the same as the domestic business class seats on Virgin's Boeing 737 or Airbus planes, but they are obviously wider than the prior offering, with 38 inches of seat pitch. "The E190 fleet is necessary for our area routes," Virgin Australia's Martin Daley, Group managerial of Product and Service, said, explaining: "with improved features such as larger seats, re-configured seating and space, the new Business Class cabin provides a complete in-flight experience suited to the corporate and business traveller.”

Virgin Australia has 18 of the small jets, which are popular with business travellers for their seats an inch wider than the seats on Virgin's 737s - and for the lack of a center seat passenger between the aisle and window seat. CEO John Borghetti will formally proclaim the new E-190 seats today as part of Virgin Australia's half-year briefing, which is predictable to contain other announcements of interest to business travellers.

The guild Classic section offers 82 seats in a 2-2-2 design, where the seat pitch (seat-to-seat distance) measures a generous 51" while the seat cushion width is a comfortable 22".

Business travellers are particularly worried about connectivity during long flights. Hong Kong Airlines offers passengers the On-air in-flight connectivity services for prompt and fast Smartphone, tablet and notebook computer and internet accessibility through WIFI. Passengers can also buy, at any time on the internet, value-added in-flight WIFI services.

On-air Chief administrative Officer, Mr. Ian Dawkins, said, "On-air is the first provider to be able to offer in-flight internet access over China, meaning passengers can now stay online in Chinese airspace. It also means we now provide 95% service availability on the routes our customer airlines fly, cementing On Air's position as the global in-flight connectivity service provider."

A VIP air travel experience isn't complete without outstanding in-flight dining.   Virgin's Old Boeing 737-700s Business Class Flights

The Virgin Australia has reverse on selling the pointy end of its old Boeing 737-700 aircraft as business class and will demote the cabin and fares to economy by the end of April, along with offering rebates on business class fares already paid by passengers who ended up travelling on those airplanes.

Disparate the Boeing 737-800s, which all sport Virgin's new business class, most of the 13 older-model Boeing 737-700s in the airline's domestic navy retain the original premium economy seats in the first rows.

While these seats have been recovered in new fabric, and comprise the same meals and service as business class on the -800 aircraft, the dissimilarity between the 'business class experience' on the old and new aircraft has become a sore point with many frequent flyers.

Following enquirers by Australian Business Traveller, a Virgin Australia orator confirmed "our entire Boeing 737-700 navy is now being marketed and sold as economy-only flights" - including the first three 'premium economy / business class' rows.
