Hong Kong Airlines Launches Daily All Business Class Flights

Hong Kong Airlines will start on daily all business class flights between Hong Kong and London from March 7, with linking flights out of Australia via Qantas starting at $3,520 return.

It is a split class ticket travelling Qantas economy from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth, before transferring to Hong Kong Airlines' Club Classic business class from Hong Kong to London.

For $8860 revisit you get Qantas business class to Hong Kong and the snazzier Club Premier from Hong Kong to London.

The Hong Kong Airlines flights use three new Airbus A330-200s with just 116 seats (by way of comparison, Qantas' worldwide versions of the same aircraft pack some 253 seats across both business and economy class).

Flight from Hong Kong (HX875) will leave at 11.50pm, arriving at London's Gatwick Airport the following day at 5.55am. The revisit service, HX876, will be wheels up from Gatwick at 9.30pm and reach Hong Kong at 6.05pm the next day.

Aussie business travellers will be extra familiar with London's Heathrow airport but in many ways Gatwick is more expedient than the mega-hub of Heathrow. It's a lesser and extra manageable airport with a direct rail link on London's Thames link line to several stops convenient for the City of London financial district.

American Airlines Pick Cathay's Business Class For New Airplanes

Qantas' one world colleague American Airlines has released details of its much-awaited new business class seating, and it's the same fully flat business class bed as seen on Cathay Pacific.

The seats are agreed in a four-across reverse herringbone layout, with window seats facing away from the aisle towards the windows, and centre seats facing together away from the aisle.

These are as well the seats acclimated by American's adversary US Airways in its Envoy Class international business/first offering.

(Require a refresher on what those layouts signify and how they work? We have got you roofed with our adviser to business class seats and cabin layouts.)

The new seats will be fitted first on AA's new Boeing 777-300ER planes, but the airline has yet to proclaim whether its older aircraft will be refitted with the new seats.

American has also ordered new first class seats for the very front of the plane, and the airline is promising a "dramatic archway" when you board - plus "unique mood lighting" (which seems similar to the mood lighting you'll see in many other airlines' cabins, so we're not entirely sure how it's "unique").

Wifi internet will also be obtainable on board.

Australians travelling via the US will see the new business class first on flights to Latin America. The Dallas/Fort Worth to Sao Paulo route will be the first with the new aircraft and seats.
