  Qatar Airways Launches Flights to Brazil, Argentina

Qatar Airways has launched planned daily flights to Brazil as well as Argentina marking the national carrier's venture into South America.Brazil's largest city Sao Paulo and the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires have become a part of the airline's increasing list of destinations, taking the Doha-based carrier’s global network up to 92 destinations globally.

Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker led a delegation of dignitaries on the inaugural flight QR921 from Doha to Sao Paulo and further on to Buenos Aires.They consisted of Brazil's ambassador to Qatar, Anuar Nahes and Argentina's ambassador Ruben Caro.

Airport functions, featuring a cake-cutting ceremony and speeches, were conducted on reaching both cities, attended by government, airport as well as business officials. Al-Baker stated that just 13 years ago,Qatar Airways commenced an ambitious plan by launching an airline that would spread its wings far and wide and provide the highest levels of service and hospitality.

He also added that they were proud that they have achieved a significant feat, stretching their award-winning service to South America by serving both Brazil and Argentina, which takes their global network up to 92 destinations across six continents.

  United Airlines Launches Flight into Africa

United Airlines launched its first-ever service to the continent of Africa on last Sunday, June 20, with the 10:10 p.m. departure of United 990 between Washington and Accra, the capital of Ghana.


United 990, a Boeing 767 aircraft, arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra the next day at 12:40 p.m. U.S.-bound service from Accra begun June 21 with the departure of United 991 at 11 p.m., arriving in Washington the next day at 6:25 a.m.

Joining United on the first flight is The Honorable Daniel Ohene Agyekum, the Ghanaian ambassador to the United States and American Idol Finalist and recording artist, Elliott Yamin.

Flights to and from Accra are suitably timed for connections at Washington Dulles, United's principal trans-Atlantic gateway, to more than 70 cities in North America. As the biggest airline in the nation's capital, United offers nearly 300 daily departures from Washington Dulles.

Colombian carrier Aero Republica introduces business class seats on global routes in and out of Colombia.Passengers will be able to enjoy the luxuries of business class in flights between Panama and the Colombian cities of Bogota, Cali, Medellin and Barranquilla, including the lately inaugurated Bogota-Quito-Bogota route.

  Delta Airlines To Include First Class Seats To Longer Domestic Flights

Delta Airlines recently stated that it would include first class seating to domestic flights longer than 750 miles or around two and a half hours long this fall.The company has announced that after upgrades are accomplished,50 routes that feature Delta Connection flights with just one service class will include both first and economy class.

By fall, Delta's fleet will consist of 219 regional aircraft with two class service, the company said. Service on the fresh two-class flights would be operated by regional carriers SkyWest, Pinnacle Airlines, Chautauqua as well as others.

Meals and linen service are provided on all regional flights that consist of a first class cabin.The decision is part of Delta's plan to spend $1 billion in the forthcoming years on upgrades that include equipping some planes with flat-bed seats that provides extra legroom and adding facilities such as supplementary overhead bin space.

  Jetstar to Include Additional Airbus to New Zealand Fleet

Low-fare airline Jetstar is escalating its New Zealand operations and considering direct long haul flights to North America as well as Asia.

Jetstar said it would base a seventh Airbus A320 aircraft in New Zealand later on this year, which could fly domestic or global routes.The company was also considering deploying two-class A330-200 aircraft to maintain long-haul international services to New Zealand.

Chief executive Bruce Buchanan stated that the company was targeting direct services to Asia and North America as well as three or four fresh routes on the Tasman.

Buchanan stated that they were planning to launch in the next couple of weeks if they were going to proceed with any of those long-haul flights.He also added that the company was in the final phases of discussions with airports and partners and they would make announcements and decisions at the earliest.

He added that if they were going to deploy (A330 aircraft) into New Zealand, to begin with it'd be one aircraft and then they would build up the capability and then would deploy more.

  Emirates Introduces A380 Flights to Jeddah

Emirates AirlineEmirates Airlines introduces daily Airbus A380 flights to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.This brings the A380 in a three class configuration Emirates' Business Class to Saudi Arabia for the very first time.

Commencing June 22 2010,Emirates is also escalating its services to Riyadh. The carrier will operate one extra flight per week on a Tuesday, having already included a further three weekly flights for summer, making its total weekly services to 11. The four extra summer services will be existing up to 30 October.

Ahmed Khoory, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Operations Gulf, Middle East and Iran stated that the addition of Business Class seats on services to Jeddah has been extremely expected by the market.The A380 not only gives passengers the opportunity to try the Business Class services but has also enhanced the overall capacity on this route by 17% overall.Emirates operates 7 weekly scheduled flights to Jeddah and a totality of 21 scheduled weekly flights to Saudi Arabia.
